| Modern Trends: the outdoor kitchen
Grilling has long been an exalted American pastime. Indeed,
many homes feature some sort of outdoor grill. In recent years,
grilling has reached a new kind of popularity among builders
of Chicago new constructions. Many developers are now incorporating
an outdoor kitchen into their houses.
From the perspectives of both the homeowner and the builder,
outdoor kitchens are desirable on many levels. For the homeowner,
there comes the enjoyment of cooking and enjoying a meal outdoors.
For the builder, there is considerable added value to their
Chicago new construction. It’s a win-win situation,
which explains the growing popularity of outdoor kitchens.
Open-air kitchens provide highly functioning spaces for cooking
while enjoying the best the great outdoors has to offer. Within
well-planned designs, focus is placed on both the cooking
facility and the dining area. Top builders integrate practical
solutions and chic designs, so that the cuisine befits the
al fresco space. Outdoor kitchens take all of the fun of a
rustic barbeque and elevates it to a more comfortable and
functional plane.
At the very least, an open-air kitchen requires a quality
grill and a patio or alternative seating area. For convenience
and protection, storage space is another necessity. Stylish
and functional countertops are a popular feature, and large
sinks add even more functionality. Topped off with a few key
topnotch appliances (a refrigerator and freezer, at least),
outdoor kitchens in these Chicago new constructions are often
more appealing than the normal, indoor kitchens which most
people have. Of course, really extravagant properties might
opt for wine storage and custom wood cabinets.
Of course, the grill is the focal point of any open-air kitchen.
Expensive gas grills are the norm, but some kitchens make
room for more than just one type of grill. Other cooking equipment,
i.e., top-grade ovens like Vikings, wood-burning stoves, and
rotisseries, also make excellent additions.
Of course, the conscientious builder will also pay mind to
the area where diners will be seated. After all, comfortable
entertaining is an important aspect of the outdoor dining
experience. For maximum utility, this area should be shielded
from the elements. That way, the state of the art entertainment
system (including a plasma TV and surround sound) will be
protected. In cooler climates, a fireplace can take the edge
off a windy or chilly evening. Gas fireplaces are more convenient,
while wood burning units are a bit more charming.
